Teranol Injection

Composition :

Each ml injectable TERANOL^® contain Ketorolac tromethamine 30 mg

 

Pharmacology :

Ketorolac tromethamine is a non-narcotic analgesic and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory with anti-inflammatory effects and weak antipyretic activity. Ketorolac tromethamine inhibits prostaglandin synthesis and may have peripherally analgesic activity since no known effect on opiate receptors.

 

Indication :

Ketorolac tromethamine is indicated as a short-term analgesic for moderate to severe acute pain after surgery. Ketorolac tromethamine should be used no more than 5 days. It is recommended that Ketorolac tromethamine be immediately given by injection after a period of surgery. Ketorolac tromethamine is not recommended for obstetrical preoperative or obstetrical analgesia as studies of these conditions are inadequate and because of the known effects of the drug on inhibition of prostaglandin biosynthesis or uterine contractions and fetal circulation.

 

Dosage :

Adult:

The initial dose recommended for Ketorolac tromethamine is 10 mg, continued 10-30 mg every 4-6 hours as needed. Total daily dose is 90 mg and 60 mg for patients with mild renal failure and patients less than 50 kg. The lowest effective dose should be used for a short time in all patient conditions.

Ketorolac tromethamine is given by intramuscular injection or intravenous bolus injection. Intravenous bolus dose should be given at least than 15 seconds. Ketorolac tromethamine should not be used for epidural or spinal administration. The dose should be adjusted according to the severity of the pain and the patient’s response. Continuous administration of Ketorolac tromethamine with double dose i.m. or i.v. should not be more than 2 days because side effects can increase with extended usage time.

Elderly:

For patient aged over 65 years old is recommended lower end dose range. Total dose is not more than 60 mg a day.

Ketorolac tromethamine is compatible with 5% dextrose, ringer’s solution, lactated ringer solution, normal saline and plasmalyte solution.
