Composition :

Each capsule QCEF® 500 contain Cefadroxil monohydrate 524.77 mg equivalent with Cefadroxil 500 mg

Each 5 ml syurp QCEF® contain Cefadroxil monohydrate equivalent with Cefadroxil 125 mg

 

Pharmacology :

  • QCEF® is a semi-synthetic antibiotic cephalosporin class, in vitro shows that Cefadroxil is bactericidal, because it works by inhibiting cell wall synthesis.
  • Cefadroxil is active for gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms such as S. aureus, S. pneumoniae, Beta haemolytic streptococcus, E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, H. influenzae and Proteus mirabilis.

 

Indication :

Indicated primarily for severe diseases caused by gram negative microorganisms. Infections caused by microorganisms that are sensitive to Cefadroxil such as:

  • Lower and upper respiratory tract infection
  • Soft tissue and skin infection
  • Urinary tract infection
  • Bone infection

 

Dosage :

  • For adults/children weighing more than 40 kg: 1 – 2 grams divided by 2 or 3 times daily, depending on the severity of infection.
  • For very severe infections where higher doses are required or more frequent administration, parenteral administration cephalosporin may be considered.
  • For adults/children weighing less than 40 kg: 30 mg /kg/day divided into 2 or 3 times daily, depending on the severity of infection.
  • In patients with renal function abnormalities, daily dose are decreased and or extended drug intervals to avoid the occurrence of antibiotic accumulation.
  • Treatment should be continued at a minimum of 48 to 72 hours after the signs of the disease begin to disappear or when all bacteria have been eradicated.
  • It is recommended a minimum of 10 days treatment for infections caused by beta haemolytic streptococcus.
  • Chronic urinary tract infection needs longer time, more intensive therapy followed by bacteriological and clinical examination.
