Amoxicillin is a semi synthetic and stable antibiotic penicillin in the stomach acid atmosphere. Amoxicillin is absorbed rapidly and well in the digestive tract of food, independent of the presence of food. Amoxicillin is primarily excreted in unchanged form in the urine. Excretion is inhibited when administration coincides with probenecid thus prolonging the therapeutic effect. Amoxicillin is active against gram-positive and gram-negative organisms.
